Having never tried smoked fish in my life, I was pleasantly surprised by the rich taste and quality of smoked fish in these recipes. They are very tasty and very healthy. Some of these recipes that you can make at home are Smoked Salmon, Smoked Bass, Smoked Tuna, Shrimp, Mussels and more. I am sure if you try these recipes you will love them. I have included links below to the various Smoked Fish Recipes I have found online.
Smoked Salt Fish:
Smoked Salt Fish. I have always loved Smoked Salt Fish. It has that salty taste that you only get from smoked fish. In fact, you can season it in all kinds of ways. I normally season mine with garlic salt, pepper, and onion. You will also be able to use a smoke flavor if you are cooking it on the grill.
This is very good if you like Salmon or Halibut. This makes a delicious meal that freezes well. I normally prepare this when the salmon is just being cooked and add some baby albacore tuna to give it that sweet and salty punch. My family and I love to do this during the fall and winter months. It’s so easy to make and you don’t have to worry about ruining the fish.
I have been wanting to make a salmon cocktail for some time now. It would be such a wonderful centerpiece to any party. I usually use the Baked Bean Dip. I take fresh bok choy and saute it in some garlic butter and then mix in the balsamic vinegar and tomato sauce. I let it heat up on the grill for about 10 minutes, then remove it and serve with crackers.
If you have some time to spare why not make a pot of stew. I usually use chicken broth, canned tuna, and some brown sugar. Then simply simmer it on the top of the stove while you use a stick to stir it.
I also like to make smoked Salt Trout. You can buy smoked trout in the wintertime at your local bait shop. Just go with the lightest side oil you can find. I typically use maple oil. I let it smoke for about two hours then finish it off by shredding it into nice pieces.
For the fish rub in some Cayenne pepper, salt, and oregano before you hang the fish in the smoker. Let it cook on indirect heat for about three hours. This will give a smokey flavor to your food. You can always use the drippings to make rice. If you are having trouble getting the fish going, don’t be afraid to use the drippings for rice. That way you can always have rice later.
My favorite thing about this style of cooking is that the fish is so tender. There is almost no crunch from the salt. The lighting alone is enough to get me excited. There are so many great smoked dishes out there, you will never have to settle. Go out and start trying new smoked foods today!
Some other great things about smoked are that the spices you place inside the fish bring out the flavor even more. My favorite thing to do is make a fish sandwich. Rub some Cayenne pepper on whole slices of bread then roll them up and fry them in some melted butter. Another delectable treat is smelt or salmon smelt with mustard.
Some Important Tips and Techniques:
When making fish to grill, make sure you season it well. I like to put some salt and pepper on my fish before I flip it over. Some other ways to season your fish is to put it in the marinade for several hours or to put a little salt on the cut side of the fish while you are grilling. Sometimes, if you are trying to keep fish from sticking you might want to leave it in the marinade overnight.
Smoke Fish For Parties:
Smoked fish is great for parties and get-togethers. If you want to make this type of food you have to plan ahead. I usually plan out meals weeks in advance so that I have plenty of time to prepare and grill. Most people do not plan out their meals that well, so if you really want to impress people you have to be prepared. I think the hardest part about smoking fish is getting the smoke rolling in.
Once you learn how to do it, you will wonder why you never tried it before. I recommend doing a search on Google for “smoked fish”. You will be surprised by all the recipes out there. Some are better than others, but they all are excellent. Some people might not care for the taste of the smoked fish, but the aroma that it creates is hard to explain. Enjoy the great aroma!
